Introduction - Counter-Stike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, otherwise abbreviated as 'CS GO', is an extremely popular, online multiplayer, first person shooter (FPS) game. Developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment, released in 2012, CS GO is the fourth title to the Counter Strike franchise. Despite Counter-Strike being in the foreground for fps gaming, it hadn't seen an enormous surge in popularity until CS GO. CS GO's player base has drastically increased, especially within the previous 2 years - with the cumulative growth of Electronic Sports (E-Sports) as a whole. With that being said, CS GO sees itself cater for 400,000 to 700,000 unique players daily, as a result of their brilliant marketing and competitive professional scene.

Now, with CS GO's vast player base and flourishing economy, it will only become bigger from here and certify it's omnipotent grip as the face of E-Sports.

Online gaming and E-sport

In the recent years, online games have become more and more popular, and this trend is only likely to increase over the next few years. Online games are very different compared to traditional computer games, as it allows multiple players to interact and compete against each other at the same time, which brings the idea of E-sport.

E-sports can be similar but yet different to physical sport competitions, both are similar because it only allows best players in their field to compete against each other and requires strategy and teamwork as each team member have their own role, however unlike physical sports where players have to rely on their physical performances, professional gamers are sitting behind their computer screen and playing games such as League of Legend, Dota2 or CounterStrike GO.

A career in E-sport can also make a fortune of money depending on the performance and sponsorships, especially when E-sports tournaments also offer prize money to the top competing teams, as an example, 2014 League of Legend World Champions; games were streamed live by 40 broadcast partners, and cast in 19 languages. The grand finals were watched by 27 million people, with concurrent viewership peaking at over 11 million viewers. The grand prize alone was $1 million which was taken by Samsung Galaxy White.

Osu!

‘Osu!’ (oss) is a popular freeware rhythm game initially for Microsoft windows. The game was released on September 16, 2007 and has expanded to be compatible with various platforms such as OS X and Iphone. ‘Osu!’ was made by developer Dead Herbert and is playable through single player and multiplayer. The main objective of the game is for players to clear hit circles that disappear at a certain duration. These hit circles are to be hit while following the flow and rhythm of the song (a.k.a beatmap). ‘Osu!’ also provides multiple game modes for players and includes a community of over 6,000,000 registered players, with  a total over 3.30 billion ranked plays. ‘Osu!’ also provides the community to create their own beatmaps of popular genres in which they can possibly become an a official ranked song for players to compete in. I myself am a ‘osu!’ player and would recommend anyone to play.
